It is amazing how the departure of the hot months seems to make some people become more relaxed about the risk of fire. London Fire and Safe wants to ensure that everyone keeps on their toes about the risks of fire indoors and out.

The risk of fire is still very real even when it is cooler and also when you are indoors. When it comes to running an office all staff need to be made aware of the risks of fire. The responsibility is on everyone to remove the risk of fire to protect lives and valuables.

Here are some great tips to help make sure that your office is kept safe from the risk of fire when the cooler months arrive.

Prevention is the key

If your office is not fitted with an electrical safety switch yet, by law it should be. This means that if electrical items malfunction, the switch will cut off the supply of the electricity, thus reducing the risk of fire.

Cooler months are a time when employees like to use heaters, for instance, at their desks. These should always be checked for damage as should all electrical items in the office area and kitchen if there is one.

If staff is bringing in heaters then these should only be approved in accordance with Australian Safety Standards. Any chemicals should be stored safely away and not kept near areas where fire risk is high.

Fire procedures

It cannot be stressed enough how important it is that staff be aware of the fire safety and evacuation procedures. There should be a fire warden appointed and a designated safety area. As well as all this, everyone present in the office should know what to do in the event of a fire. There should also be fire safety equipment present.

The team at London Fire and Safe stock all of the appropriate equipment for fire safety. They provide smoke alarms, extinguishers, lighting and more. Your equipment can be installed by the highly qualified team and invaluable training for use of extinguishers, amongst others, can be provided.

Some other great fire prevention tips are to get all electrical repairs carried out by a qualified electrician and make sure that air conditioning units are cleaned and checked regularly.

It’s important to be mindful of fire risks in the office, even when it’s cold. Contact London Fire and Safe today so your office is safe from preventable fire damage and loss.
